Description:
In this studio, we will create our first prototypes as full-scale mock-ups to explore different lighting effects and shapes. This is your chance to experiment with various design elements and test how they work with light.
Instructions:
Prepare Materials:
- Gather materials such as paper, cardboard, and optional (basic lighting components (e.g., LED lights, wires))
- Follow the safety guide in the Resources tab before starting the prototyping process.
Create Mock-ups:
- Assemble quick mock-ups of your sculpture using paper and cardboard.
- Incorporate basic lighting elements into your mock-ups to test how light interacts with your design (optional). you could use your phone flashlight for now.
- Ensure that these mock-ups are stable and can be tested with light.
Testing:
- Set up your mock-up with the lighting components and test the illumination effects.
- Place your prototype in the intended environment to assess its impact and functionality.
- Discuss with your partner or peers what you think about the design and lighting effects.
- Note areas for improvement and gather feedback for refinement.
- Documentation
Photograph Your Work:
- Take clear photos of your sketches and cardboard prototypes with the lighting elements.
- Document the testing process and any observations or feedback received.
- Create a blog post that includes:
- Photographs of your sketches and prototypes. Descriptions of your design process and any changes made.
- Observations and feedback from the testing phase.
Deliverables:
- Blog Post:
- Photos of your sketches and prototypes.
- A summary of your design process and testing results.
- Observations and feedback from your testing experience.
Materials Needed:
- Cardboard
- Glue gun
- Fasteners
- Tape
- Scissors/cutter
- Ruler
- Basic lighting components (e.g., LED lights, wires)
- Safety gear
