Prompt: 

In this studio, we will observe our relationship with nature, particularly plants. Today, as a part of this process, we will design tiny critters found in nature! Be sure to think about the type of environment that they live in, features that make them unique as well as how to best capture the way they move!

Step 1: Design Your Bot

Each bug bot has three main components -

1. The guts (electronics)

2. The body (must hold the battery and motor and sit flat on a table)

3. The flair (must have a spunky visual personality)

With your prototyping materials in mind (plus other objects you can find around your home, like bottle caps, twist ties, etc.), sketch how your bug bot will look from the front and side. When designing your flair, draw inspiration from the descriptive word you chose for this morning’s icebreaker!

Step 2: Make your Circuit

Using the diagram in the slides above, gather your circuitry components and make sure they work.

Step 3: Build!

Assemble your BugBot with your circuit components and prototyping materials according to your design. It’s ok to make tweaks and experiment with different materials/shapes as you go!

Deliverables: Take a video and three photos (front, side, and one close-up “profile photo”) of your bug bot and upload them along with your sketch to the Response tab of this assignment. Change your NuVu profile photo to the third image of your BugBot! Bonus points if you can come up with a creative name for your bot :)
