Description:
In this activity, we will learn how to create files for laser cutting& 3D printing needed for a refined prototype.
Instructions:
Laser Cutting with XTool:
- Download and Install XTool Software
Begin by downloading and installing the XTool software on your computer. Familiarize yourself with the interface by going through the available tutorials.
- Start with Basic Shapes
Open a new project and start by creating simple shapes. Experiment with the tools and settings to understand how the software works.
- Increase Design Complexity
Once you’re comfortable, gradually build up to more complex designs that align with your project goals.
- Prepare Files for Cutting
When your design is ready, consult your instructor to confirm the correct settings and file formats. Export your files and prepare them for laser cutting.
3D Printing with Tinkercad:
- Log in to Tinkercad
Create a free account at tinkercad.com and log in. Access the 3D design workspace.
- Start Designing
Begin by dragging basic shapes into the workspace. Combine, scale, and modify them to match your desired design.
- Add Detail and Refine
As you become more comfortable, add more detail to your model. Use grouping, hole, and alignment tools to refine your creation.
- Export and Prepare for Printing
Once your model is complete, export the file in .STL format. Check in with your instructor to review the file and prepare it for 3D printing.
Deliverables:
Your final product should be a set of files ready for laser cutting or 3D printing.
You should document your progress along the way and create a set of slides to present to the studio. Upload your files (links and saved files)
Your presentation should include a demo of the project, including a physical prototype made from the laser cut parts.
