Exploring art installations with light

By exploring different ways light is being used in art, you will have a richer body of inspiration to pull from as you start to design.

ACTIVITY MATERIALS

In the Toolbox tab for the studio, find a video library of information about various light installations. Choose 1/2 to research (depending on time available)

Then, answer the following questions using the template

1. What is the main concept or theme of the light installation?
2. What materials and technology are used in the installation?
3. How is light used in the installation (e.g., direction, color, intensity, patterns)?
4. What effect does the lighting create in the space? Does it change throughout the installation?
5. Is the installation interactive? If so, how do viewers engage with it?
6. How does the installation interact with the surrounding space? Does it transform the environment in any way?
7. What might have inspired the artist to create this particular installation? Are there any cultural, historical, or personal influences?
